The directory listings themselves don't actually generate more visitors. There remains some contention with regard to how many directories is the right number to submit my blog to. Some people feel that I should submit my blog to as many as hundreds of blog directories, while others feel that this would be pointless. As is the norm in the industry, it appears that submission to 10 blog directories or even less is sufficient. For although search engines are attracted to sites that have plenty of links, they are more likely to place a higher value on links that are featured on on topic posts and articles, as opposed to those that come from blog directories.
